Virtual Demonstration Consult

Consultation and Customer Service

Finding the right workstation for your healthcare facility can feel overwhelming. With so many options on the market, each with their own features, form factors, and intended use cases, it’s easy to get lost in the details without consultation.

Whether you're just beginning your journey with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), transitioning to a new Workstation on Wheels (WOW), exploring medication dispensing carts, or finally replacing those aging wooden Fetal Monitor Carts, making the right decision is critical to both clinical efficiency and patient care.

At Convergint–Innovative Medical, a division of Convergint Technologies, we understand that no two healthcare environments are alike. That’s why we’ve built our reputation around being our customers’ best service provider. Our established partnerships with leading manufacturers in the healthcare industry allow us to provide practical and tailored solutions for Point-of-Care charting, Bedside Medication Delivery, EMR, and OB and Patient Care Furniture.

With nearly 40 years of experience in healthcare technology and clinical workflows, we know how to assess your needs, identify gaps, and recommend workstation solutions tailored to each specific area of your hospital or care facility.

Low Cost of Ownership

Determining Value & Low Cost of Ownership

When you build a home, it might seem tempting to simply accept the lowest bid. It may seem like a good idea in the short term, but what happens in 2, 5, or 10 years? Does that low bid translate into hidden costs like repairs, shortcuts, or replacements? What is your total cost of ownership?

If you choose on the initial price alone, you might be asking:

  • Did they cut corners to complete the job?
  • Are they committed to quality or just focused on quick work?
  • Are they inexperienced?

Let’s dig into why “lowest bidder” is rarely the best long-term decision, especially in the world of healthcare equipment.

The Risks of Choosing the Lowest Bidder

  • Compromised quality: Materials or craftsmanship that don’t stand the test of time
  • Hidden cost escalation: More repairs, maintenance, or replacements later
  • Lack of accountability or support: No backup if things go wrong
  • Misaligned incentives: The vendor is more focused on closing deals than lasting relationships

What “Best Value” Really Means

We don’t want to overpay and award work to the highest bidder. So what do we really want?

What we should be seeking is lowest total cost of ownership, not lowest purchase price. That includes:

  • Product lifespan
  • Reliability & performance
  • Service, support, and warranty
  • Upgradability and flexibility

Determining the Best Value

How do we determine the best value and lowest long-term cost of ownership?

  • Vendor experience & track record: Do they specialize in your niche? How long have they been in business? Do they have other satisfied customers?

  • Level of Service: Do you communicate well with your sales representative? Are you satisfied with their level of service? Do they offer preventive maintenance, integration services, or on-site support? Do they provide flexibility in customization of products and services?

  • Product Testing: How long has the vendor been providing this product? How long on average do these last before replacement or repair is needed? Can you trial units before commitment?

  • Repairs & Add Ons vs. Replacements: Do they offer modular add on accessories? Are repair parts low cost? What would warrant a full replacement of the product?

  • Transparency in Pricing: Are there hidden fees? What are the freight costs? Are there any recurring fees?

How Cost of Ownership Applies to Medical Equipment

Consider computer carts and medical carts. If you pick just the cheapest, you’ll often see:

  • Shorter lifespan
  • Failures or compatibility issues
  • Higher maintenance burden
  • Poor vendor responsiveness

At Convergint-Innovative Medical, our approach is different:

  • We prioritize proven, best-in-class products
  • Pre-sales assistance defining the best product, customizations, and tailored fits for your needs
  • Virtual & onsite demonstrations to ensure the solution fits
  • Product delivery ownership, coordination, and communication
  • If needed, onsite integration with your technology
  • Preventative maintenance plans
  • Break-fix service both on-site and remote
  • Modular upgrades and add-ons to support long-term adaptations

Conclusion & Takeaway

So while the low bidder may appear appealing up front, the risks and long-term costs of ownership often outweigh the savings. When you're choosing a vendor or product, aim for value — not just a low price tag.

Ask yourself: Is the low bid really giving you what you’ll need down the road?

Customer Service

Customer Service Standouts

Finding good customer service is tough. It is a challenge just navigating maze-like automated phone systems, much less finding a live person who will go above and beyond to help. So when you see exceptional service you want to shout it from the treetops. In this case, I wanted to tell you a little about two of my colleagues at IMS (now Convergint).

They are the kind of individuals who do whatever they need to do to get the job done, and going above and beyond is just part of their day. They NEVER-EVER expect any recognition. Today, I want to recognize their commitment to go above and beyond and shout it from the blogosphere!

“Outstanding customer service is something that Convergint takes seriously and our commitment to serve you is unwavering.”

Best Customer Service Healthcare Integrator

Julie Hammond

The first colleague I want to recognize is our office manager, Julie Hammond. Julie has been with Convergint for over 29 years and if you ever have any questions, Julie always gets you an answer. After the governor of Michigan issued a state-wide stay at home order in March, most of our employees began working from home.

However, because we are responsible for providing products and services to healthcare customers designated as critical infrastructure, we needed to ensure that any tasks that could not be performed remotely continued to be performed by a minimal number of staff onsite. These day-to-day onsite tasks were not necessarily seen by those of us working from home, but Julie and a handful of others on her team remained at the office to ensure those critical tasks continued to be completed.

Julie consistently works behind the scenes to ensure that the processes we rely on to conduct daily operations operate smoothly and efficiently. With the entire office (and nation, for that matter) dealing with a global pandemic, uncertainty about what is happening and what may come next has become a new routine and part of doing business. But the one thing we employees know about Convergint is that we know how to persevere!

So, when Julie received an email in the wee hours on a weekend that alerted her to a time-sensitive issue, she got out of bed and drove into the office to take care of it. Could it have waited until Monday? Possibly, but in hindsight, Monday would likely have been too late and the delay would have caused bigger problems. And she never said a word about it (another colleague later told me about it). Julie’s dedication makes a huge difference for Convergint and all of its employees.

Convergint Innovative Medical Solutions Integrator

Mike Keenan

The second colleague who recently went above and beyond is one of our Service Technicians, Mike Keenan. First of all, let me say our service team consistently goes above and beyond for our customers, but this time was unique. After working all day on-site at a customer location, Mike was wrapping things up to head home when he smelled something burning. So he began looking and asking around.

The on-site staff noticed the smell as well, but were unable to find its source. Someone suggested it might be caused by a tar-like construction product that can smell quite bad. But Mike noticed that the smell kept getting stronger, even through his mask. He continued to investigate, and when he noticed smoke wafting down the stairwell, he knew there was a bigger problem.

Once on-site maintenance arrived, they also confirmed a strong burning smell. Further investigation around a hidden overhang on the roof revealed that the whole space was filled with a dangerous amount of smoke. The maintenance team jumped into action breaking holes in the walls to discover the source of the smoke and found that the roof was on fire! Thankfully, they were able to extinguish it without substantial damage.

Mike was the only person working in that area that day, and the customer was very grateful he took the time to fully investigate the issue. Had Mike simply packed it up and assumed it was construction tar, the outcome could have been far different.

Outstanding customer service is something that Convergint takes seriously and our commitment to serve you is unwavering.

MSSA Program Paperwork

MSSA Program

Most of us would agree that paperwork is a pain. For example, according to the IRS, American taxpayers spend an average of 11 hours each year preparing their tax return paperwork. Think that’s bad? Imagine being an auto manufacturer submitting documentation for something called the Federal Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard.

According to the federal government, that process takes 8,354 hours. That’s the equivalent of four full-time employees working on nothing but “Federal Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Standard” paperwork for an entire year!

The healthcare community is facing its own paperwork problem. A 2016 study in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that for every hour physicians were seeing patients, they were spending nearly two additional hours on paperwork.

Even when in the examination room with patients, doctors were spending only 53% of the time talking to or examining their patients and 37% of the time doing... you guessed it... paperwork. A more recent report similarly found a “startling increase” in administrative tasks, with more than a third of physicians spending 20 or more hours per week on paperwork.

“Our MSSA program covers everything from single-product purchases to complex system installations, and provides numerous customer benefits, whether you’re a single facility or a multi-hospital IDN.”

Here at IMS (now Convergint), we understand that our customers are seeking ways to slay the paperwork dragon. Although we can’t do your taxes, we can streamline your contracting process through our Master Sales and Services Agreement (MSSA) program. Our MSSA program covers everything from single-product purchases to complex system installations, and provides numerous customer benefits, whether you’re a single facility or a multi-hospital IDN:

  • A single Master Agreement governing all purchases for all covered facilities, eliminating the need for legal review of single purchase agreements
  • Statements of Work (SOW) templates for all Convergint products and services, the only paperwork required for even complex system purchases
  • Reduce the number of suppliers, creating less paperwork and administration time
  • Provides a vehicle to standardize products and services across your organization to reduce the number of suppliers and products, requiring less paperwork and administration time to manage
  • Evergreen auto-renewal, helping you avoid redundant contract reviews, as you are “one and done”

Ready to take the next step toward reducing paperwork? Contact us to learn more about how our MSSA program can help you make it all work together in healthcare.

Best of Breed Medical Carts

Best of The Best

The National Dog Show, televised every year after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, has become a fan favorite, even for those who don't typically follow dog shows. The winning entry even makes national headlines and generates a lot of publicity for the winner's breed. But what does winning the National Dog Show mean for the breed?

  • Is there an uptick in sales?
  • Is it awareness of the breed?
  • What about the awesome mixed breed dogs that are not eligible to participate?

All good questions, but whatever the motivation, there is no doubt the notoriety of being named the "Best of the Best". Achieving this status required long hours of training and grooming. So you know that when a dog wins the National Dog Show, it is truly the BEST of the BEST.

At Innovative Medical Systems (now Convergint), we only represent the "Best of the Best". This means the solutions we represent have been scrupulously vetted, and our expert staff has in-depth knowledge on the solution. The decision to only represent “Best of Breed” vendors was made when Convergint began over 30 years ago. We believe it is important for us to thoroughly understand and recommend the right solutions, making sure they are built to last and to sustain the healthcare environment 24/7/365. Why does this matter to you?

“We believe it is important for us to thoroughly understand and recommend the right solutions, making sure they are built to last and to sustain the healthcare environment 24/7/365.”

It matters because in order to truly be the “Best of the Best” we have to make sure we also “Walk the Walk” and provide not only the "Best of the Best" products but the "Best of the Best" customer service. For us it is simply an extension of the Golden Rule, “Treat others as you want to be treated.”

So with that in mind, consider these “Top Reasons Why Convergint Is The Best Of Best Vendor For You:”

  • Cost of Ownership: What is the long-term value of your purchase? How long is it expected to last in your facility? Look at the “Cost of Ownership ” and the long-term value provided by working with Convergint.
  • Ease of Doing Business: How difficult is it to connect with a company? Having a real person answer the phone instead of an automated system is key to making it easy to connect with us.
  • Service and Support: We have learned how important it is to have a champion who keeps your systems operational, but knowing that there is a full service team on call 24/7 helps everyone sleep at night.
  • System Champion: Speaking of a system champion, do you have one? Why is a champion so critical to your operations? In an environment of constant change and staff turnover, who insures that the system is up-to-date and new staff is trained? We do.
  • Training: Have you met our trainers? They make training fun. But is is also an effective use of staff time. Need a refresher? Call us.
  • Digital resources: There is no denying that the digital landscape continues to change. We are proud of our website and invite you to check it out especially with the changes coming this summer!
  • Preventative Maintenance: What is your plan to keep your carts and devices fully operational for the long haul? If you don't have one, we can create one for you.
  • Why Convergint? Is it important to have a partner that gives your facility the attention it needs with the integrity to do it right.

Super Bowl of Service

Super Bowl Of Service

The annual championship game of the National Football League is where the top two NFL teams battle it out on the field to determine a winner. Winner takes all. The Super Bowl is the elite invitation to be the best! It is also when companies spend significant money to get us to talk about their commercials and their brand.

Were they the sentimental favorite? Was it funny? Was it inspirational? The brand winner gets rewarded with media buzz and increased revenues. At IMS (now Convergint), our Service Team is the elite team that makes it all work in your hospital. Available 24/7, 365. Don't take my word for it. Here is what you had to say about them:

I hope you and the rest of the Convergint staff had a great holiday, and hope you all do well moving ahead. As I previously mentioned, you have been the best vendor I’ve worked with while in my role and you definitely set the bar. Thank you for all your time, patience, and continued excellence in service to our site!

Customer from Minnesota

Just wanted to reach out to you and say that your support group has been the best support group I’ve worked with, here at "Hospital A" and "Hospital B". The team provides very good follow up, follows up proactively on issues, and the local tech Mike Keenan has always been responsive and helpful. Good job on the team and the work!

Customer from Minnesota

Bob Chenoweth and team! Just wanted to say it was a great pleasure to work with the whole Convergint Staff throughout this process! Thanks for all you did!

Customer from Minnesota

Scott Clemons and Lee Philpot from Convergint were the best vendors that I ever worked with.

Customer from Ohio

I’m sending this email a couple days late. I wanted to let you know that Mike Rittner and Wayne did an excellent job completing the wow cart PM’s, med drawer and printer bracket installs. The carts look 100% better and we will be ready for the Go-Live for the new Lab label system. Special thanks to Josh for getting everything delivered on time as promised. Thanks again to Convergint for the excellent support.

Customer from Michigan

We allowed our SMA to lapse and were hesitant to bring it up to speed because of cost. When we considered the cost of becoming current, we decided to shop around and investigate other Patient Security Systems. When it came right down to it, we contacted Convergint fearful of being charged excessive cost to get our system up to standards. And I quote "I was expecting to get hosed!" What I found when the numbers came in was a company who was being extremely fair even though we were "stepchildren who had refused to stay current." The staff here really appreciates the grace, fairness and helpfulness which our hospital experienced with Convergint.

Customer from Minnesota

Hi Jason and Ron. I just want to say Thank You to you and your teams for the HUGS upgrades. The timelines were crazy but you and your organization really responded. I have to say this was one of the most satisfying engagements I’ve had with a vendor in some time, and I appreciate all you and your teams did to get this complete. Mike Keenan was tremendous to work with, very professional and great customer skills. Mike did an excellent job with all the variables he had to deal with. I certainly was pleased with all he did. Thank you again for your efforts.

Customer from a large IDN

It has been my pleasure to work with you and Convergint. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad interaction with anyone going from the front office all the way up to Ron during my experience with HUGS –around 17 years!! The knowledge, friendly manner and patience displayed by all of you during some very trying interactions has been beyond belief. I thank you for getting both hospitals up to date with servers, hardware, versions etc. Convergint is at the top of my list for the highest quality vendor!

Customer from Michigan

Not sure who Gabe’s boss is so I am sending this to you guys, Gabe and crew did an excellent installation job here for us. Please pass this along to your higher ups and let them know that with Gabe’s leadership and knowledge along with explaining this process to our staff; this is just a great experience. You should be proud of the work these gentlemen have done!

Customer from Ohio

I just wanted to let you know that for the second time I have had to deal with Michael about a trouble cart, he has been absolutely incredible! I believe I first contacted him Monday about the cart, and as of COB today, I have the faulty inverter labeled and ready to send back! He has been outstanding at providing me support for our Howard Carts!

You Did What You Said Your Were Going To Do

The Golden Rule of Customer Service

“You did what you said you were going to do!”

A customer recently said this to me in amazement. I was just as surprised, but for a different reason. Why should this be unusual? Unfortunately, their past experiences had left them with unmet expectations.

This raises important questions:

  • Were expectations clearly set from the start?

  • Did the salesperson exaggerate to close a deal?

  • Was critical information overlooked or left out?

  • Was the scope of work fully defined and understood, including connected pieces outside of scope?

  • Who was responsible for coordinating and overseeing the post-sale process?

When expectations aren’t met, trust and confidence erode. That’s why, for over 30 years, one of our core values has been living by the Golden Rule: treating customers the way we want to be treated. We deploy solutions as if we were in the customer’s shoes — because that’s how we’d want to be served.

“I can sleep at night knowing that we aim to provide the Golden Rule treatment to customers and potential customers, allowing us to succeed more times than we fail.”

Putting the Golden Rule into Action

  • For systems: We take the time to document all the details — yes, every single one. While this slows down the sales process, it ensures a shared understanding before moving forward.
  • For equipment: We promote a “try before you buy” approach whenever possible. Demos and trials aren’t always easy or economical, but they prevent surprises and help end users confirm that equipment truly meets their needs.

These practices may be “painful” from a sales standpoint, but they build trust, minimize risk, and create lasting relationships.

Why It Matters

Some may see this as “sales talk.” And yes, I am always looking for new customers to serve. But what allows me to sleep at night is knowing that we live by the Golden Rule. We aim to deliver the kind of service that creates confidence — not just in our products, but in us as partners. And that’s why we succeed more often than we fail.

Innovative-Medical-Workflow-Love

Workflows: Love It or Leave It

When Starbuck’s announced the early introduction of their ever popular “Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL)” I wanted to leave it, but as a fan of the coveted PSL I was excited. Love pumpkin spice or hate pumpkin spice, for the next few months everything will have a “Pumpkin Spice” flavor option. For those that love pumpkin spice, this is your season. If you have a disdain for all things pumpkin spice, you will shudder at the amount of marketing being tossed at a flavor! Love it or leave it?

How about when you work with an inefficient workflow process that is a pain in the neck? It is inefficient. It wastes time but is critical. For example: manually tracking temperatures in vaccination or blood refrigerators. Taking the time to manually log and check at regular intervals to insure the refrigerator temperatures stay consistent is very time consuming. Let’s not even talk about power failures! What if that task was automated? Love it and leave the manual tracking behind!

What about having multiple carts bedside to simply undertake a procedure? All the equipment is necessary for the process, but what if it was all on one cart? Imagine doing bedside sedation and have one tech integrated unit! Love it and leave all the no longer necessary carts outside.

“Convergint is a different kind of company in the way we do business. Convergint is a company you will LOVE doing business with.”

Tracking infants and insuring they are safe is a huge undertaking. What kind of security system is in place? Simple lock down unit? How effective is a system when infants are not tagged? We all have a responsibility to protect those that can’t protect themselves. Having an infant security system that is simple to use, easy to identify, and is highly effective in protecting the most vulnerable is the best protocol for the OB. How can you not love it? Leave the lock down unit behind!!!

Having a wiggly wheel on your computer cart is maddening! How about the financial loss when the cart investment does not hold up more than two years? Having a defective computer cart has been known to cause the most easy-going clinicians to turn into raving lunatics. With a Preventative Maintenance agreement on your carts, you can always insure they are operating in tip-top shape, saving money in the long run because you increase the lifetime of the cart. Love it or leave it and talk to Convergint about a preventative maintenance agreement.

Convergint is a different kind of company in the way we do business. We are a team of dedicated knowledgeable associates who work hard to help make your job easier. We make it all work together and take the burden off your shoulders from installation of an enterprise complex system to setting up a preventative maintenance schedule for your cart fleet. Convergint is a company you will LOVE doing business with.

We do it differently and after 19 years of service, upgrades and questions answered we still have our first infant security customer to prove it. Love that this customer chooses Convergint’s competence and confidence and continues to work to us. Love us too and leave it to our competent team!
